maneki neko monday: misfortune cat?
As we are all well-aware, I am a fan of some very weird things and have a macabre sense of humor. Today I want to bring you yet another one of those internet oddities by introducing Misfortune Cat:
Misfortune Cat is an amusing, dark take on the Maneki Neko thought up by designer Ferg, whose site is unfortunately down for maintenance. The Misfortune Cat came about as a vinyl toy back in 2009, and from what I can gather, sold out incredibly quickly on Playge.net (which also has some other sold out but unique vinyl sculptures)!
Being a fan of creepy things, I love the funky, weirdo spin on the Maneki Neko Ferg came up with. Though the original Misfortune Cat is no longer available, a few designers have made customs of Misfortune Cat available at munkyking.com:
These twisted Maneki Nekos are probably way too strange for most people, but they are right up my alley! Hahaha! They are very amusing to me, and still …kind of cute!

What is.. what the… I don’t even know what to think about this. It’s simultaneously kind of cool and a bit creepy…
flowery cat skeletons: creepy or beautiful?
There are many ways to memorialize your late pets. Some ways are more odd than others. But having their skeletons decorated with fake flowers? Okay, that’s the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen. But that’s just what Amsterdam-based sculptor Cedric Laquieze does—he takes the skeletons of dogs and cats and “pretties” them up with flowers.
What are your thoughts on these? Arguably, I suppose they’re a bit nicer to look at than your everyday taxidermied animal. But they’re still creepy as hell. And what you would do with one of these? Use it as a centerpiece?

UPDATE: According to the artist himself, these are NOT real skeletons. They are actually made from PVC. Phew!
cats are extra affectionate in the bathroom
I just had to post this. I am so glad Cat Versus Human did a comic about it, because it’s the weirdest thing. What is it with cats and the bathroom?
Whenever I’m in the bathroom, it’s a sure bet that at least one of my cats is in there with me. In fact, it’s pretty common to have at least two or three cats in there with me at a time.
Juniper is notorious for dashing in there after me, and if she doesn’t make it, she scratches at the door until I let her in.
Kudzu does the same, except he meows pitifully if I don’t let him in. He is particularly fond of the shower, and likes to stick his head in there and drink water off of me. It’s adorable, if a bit annoying, because he will sit there and cry if I don’t give him any. I rarely let him in while showering, though, because I’m afraid I’ll accidentally fling some soap into his face! When I’m just using the toilet, he likes to jump into my lap and curl up.
Palpatine and Persy also like to share the bathroom with us. Palpy will whine and scratch at the door if my boyfriend doesn’t let him in with him.
Does anyone have any idea why cats like the bathroom so much? It doesn’t make any sense to me. I know many cats like drinking from the faucet, and curling up in the sink, but why do they follow us in any time we need to go? Do they really just enjoy being with us when we’re doing our business? Weirdos…
cat tat tuesday: double feature
For my first-ever Cat Tat Tuesday post, there are two tats I’d love to share. The first is a gorgeous grey with pretty pink flowers. It looks like a painting! The colors are beautiful. So well-done:
The second is another very well-done Cheshire Cat from one of my favorite PC Games, American McGee’s “Alice.” I’m a really big fan of all things creepy and horror-related, and this game is a re-imagining of Wonderland gone wrong. I love this tat tribute!
Pretty cool, if you’re a fan of that kind of weirdness like I am!
it’s time for… ridiculous cat gifs!
I’m on my lunch break, and since Hellcat is coming over later, I don’t know that I’ll have time for a quality post today. So here are some ridiculous cat GIFs. Because you can never have enough of them.
