maneki neko monday
This large maneki neko statue is located in Tokoname, a city whose traditional industry is ceramic and that is well-known for its maneki neko sculptures.
Here’s another (slightly scary) shot of the same statue.
Catzilla?!
a caturday collection: kitty cakes!
My birthday is next week, and though I’m not much of a cake person (I much prefer ice cream!), I’ve been thinking about how much fun it would be to create a kitty cakeāor how nice it’d be to receive one! Here are some cakes (and cupcakes) that I love.
I love the sweet, serene look on this kitty’s face! It doesn’t even have any icing!
This one is so much fun! I love the creativity.
I like the realistic look of the kitty cupcake cakes above. I’d love to have one that looks like one of my cats!
These cupcakes aren’t as impressive as the cakes, but they are super cute and actually within my ability to make.
Maneki neko cake!!
This simple cake is adorned with some playful fondant kitties!
Another cute cake with fondant kitties!
This cake is a little creepy, but I still love it! Nice use of craft eyes, haha.
These kitty cupcakes are precious! The bears are great, too—love the orange bowties!
I love this cake by Coco Cake Cupcakes, who we’ve featured a couple of times before. In fact, because I love them so much, I’m going to feature the maneki neko cake and cupcakes again!
Aren’t they great?! I love ‘em!
The detail in this one is amazing!
The nyanko cupcakes by alliemaries are super cute and I think I might actually be capable of making some. I love the idea of these, because nyanko is the perfect dessert kitty!
Although I love all of the cakes and cupcakes above, I think my dream kitty cake would be designed off of this:

Not necessarily with fruit, but definitely full of nyankos! Really, though, any nyanko cake would do. I’m actually surprised that I couldn’t find any out there!

maneki neko monday: maneki lego!
This photo was taken at Maker Faire 2006. Maker Faire is an event created by Make Magazine to “celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset,” that takes place in several locations around the country, including Detroit, New York, and the Bay Area. I’d never heard of it before, but it sounds pretty cool!
