maneki neko monday: solar-powered lucky cats
As many of you know, I run an online cat-themed store called Hey Kitty Kitty. Although most of the items are hand made by independent artists, including myself, I also like to offer fun goodies that are hard to find, such as items from Japan. I’ve been thinking about ordering some of these solar-powered lucky cats. What do you think?

I’m considering getting a few different colors in each style. You can see the available colors of the chubby one here and of the smaller one here. Which style and color(s) do you like best?

maneki neko monday: lucky teapot
Ack, it’s been a while since I’ve done a Maneki Neko Monday! I found this photo on Tumblr and though I’m not a big tea drinker, I would absolutely love to have this set.
maneki neko monday: maneki neko mobile
What’s this—a maneki neko mobile?! Craziness!
Although I find decorated cars to be rather silly, I think this is one I wouldn’t mind riding around in!
best of nyan nyan nyanko plushies
In February, Pixelcat introduced us to the fantastically adroable San-X character Nyan Nyan Nyanko. It’s no secret that I still just love cat plushies, and Nyan Nyan Nyanko plushies are seriously some of the cutest around. Though they are very difficult to find for purchase, I had to share some of the coolest ones I found recently!
First up! Cream puff Nyankos!
Next, a delicious-looking batch of Dim Sum Nyankos.
Ready for lunch? A Nyanko Hot Pot!
A Nyanko Pan Cake!
The All-American Burger—with a Nyanko twist!
Or, if you prefer, Nyanko-Nuggets! With mustard and BBQ sauce!
Can’t forget breakfast—Nyanko Omelette!
I’m ready for a beer and some Nyanko Sushi.
And for an appetizer, how about some lightly fried Nyanko Tempura?
So cute! Now I want to cuddle a cat and eat something delicious…
necomimi: brainwave-controlled cat ears
Yes, you read that right: brainwave-controlled cat ears. Only in Japan.

From Tokyo-based Neurowear comes Necomimi (neko and mimi are the words for “cat” and “ear” in Japanese), “the new communication tool that augments human’s body and ability.” These cat ears read brainwaves and respond to the wearer’s brain activity. If the wearer concentrates or sees something interesting, the ears perk up; when the wearer relaxes, the ears lie down.
Just see for yourself:
As ridiculous as this is, it is also undeniably cool. The cat ears are silly, but the technology behind them is pretty neat. And these kitty ears are just the start—Neurowear plans to develop even more “fashion items and gadgets using brain waves and other biosensor with ‘Augumented Human Body’ as the concept.”
I wonder what’s next? Does anyone else foresee a matching cat tail coming out soon? I bet cosplayers and lolitas are gonna love this.
