friday’s featured feline: gizmo
Today we’re letting Kathryn take the stand to introduce us to her sweet kitty, Gizmo!

This is Gizmo Tidbit! I brought Gizmo home on December 5, 2007 after seeing an ad which said, “Free Kittens to a Loving Home.” There were five kittens in the litter, and I think Gizmo and I fell in love with each other right from the start! It took me a few days to decide on a name, but after a few days of learning her personality, I knew what she had to be named.

This is Gizmo playing with me. As mentioned earlier, Gizmo got her name because of her personality. She’s really playful, and I thought the name “Gizmo” fit her. She got the middle name “Tidbit” because of my dad. He saw her and said, “She looks like a tidbit because she’s so little.” He kept calling her that when he saw her, so it just stuck. Her collar says, “I love my human.”

Playing with me again. We’ve had lots of fun play times together.

Gizmo loves to look outside. Often times, I will hear her making noises, and shaking her butt while she’s focused on birds. I can tell she wants one…more on that later…

Gizmo is a baby. She loves to be held by me, and passes out into a deep sleep.

Gizmo is really the sweetest kitty I could have asked for. She and I have an amazing bond, and I know, without her, I couldn’t have gotten through some rough times. She really makes me happy, and I can tell she is happy to have me, too.
On March 25, Gizmo pushed through our screen door wanting to catch the hoard of birds out front, and we didn’t see her for eight days. Fortunately, we found her under my neighbor’s house, and with the exception of dehydration and losing four pounds, she’s on the path to recovery! We missed her terribly, but we’re so happy to have her home! I just love her so much!

friday’s featured feline: kiera
Today’s Featured Feline comes from reader Erin, who’s going to tell us all about her Kiera!

Kiera, a gray and black female cat, came to me and my fiance as a Christmas gift six years ago when we adopted her from a local humane society. Once thin and scared, she has now grown into a lovable, chubby companion.

Kiera, which means “little friend” in Gaelic, loves long cuddles on the bed, has a catnip habit that just won’t quit and has a mischievous streak a mile wide. Her turn-offs include water, flea baths and getting caught eating leftover food on the kitchen counter.

Beside eating, her other favorite past-times include sleeping, more eating, playing and more sleeping. Her favorite spots to place her pomp in the two-bedroom apartment she calls home are a red settee meant as a place for purses and to hide shoes under, the living room couch and my pillow on the bed.

She has the personality of a five-year-old spoiled princess tom-boy and loves to play tag with a laser pointer and chase anything shiny and foil around the room. Her attention span is short, but her curiosity is never ending. She loves to be the center of attention, but only on her terms. She is very vocal about her opinions on food and when she needs to be fed and also has no compunction against telling her humans when it is time to play… even if it is 3 a.m. In the morning.

friday’s featured feline: clementine
For this week’s Featured Feline, I just had to steal the spolight for Clementine (she’d have it no other way).
Clemmie actually has a neat story. Before Pixelcat and I really even knew each other, she found Clementine as a stray kitten. She named her Clementine, both because she was tiny and orange, and in keeping with her other cats’ plant-themed names (Kudzu, Juniper, and Olive!). Clementine was a perfect fit!
Pixelcat had to move to a different apartment, and Clementine moved in with a mutual friend of ours. I moved in with this friend, and simply fell in love with Clem! When our lease was up, Clementine came to live with me in a new apartment just around the time Pixelcat and I were becoming closer friends! I’d had no idea Clementine had even been found by Pixelcat.
While all cats know they are the boss of any household, Clementine is absolutely the queen. She just exudes nobility, all prim and proper. Just look at that elegant tail curl!
And make no mistake, though she’s a sweetheart and very playful, she can be a little cranky. This hasn’t changed much since she was a kitten:
I’ve also never seen a cat that can curl up into a tighter ball than Clemmie can, when she just wants to get away from it all:
Clementine is an excellent hunter. She brings us back many unfortunate prizes. I prefer her to play with her toys. She is always first to catch the golden snitch:
It’s wonderful to have such a lovely, playful, stubborn cat like Clemmie. She’s so unique, especially in that she never grew much bigger than kitten-size. I’m so happy to have given this little orange a home!

friday’s featured feline: ebony & zeus
I just realized while posting about Adopt the Internet Day that I’ve never posted about my cats back home, Ebony and Zeus! I had thought I’d posted a video of them, but looking back through my posts, I can’t find it. So here it is. It’s not very good quality and not altogether exciting, but you can see them both (and hear their very different meows!).
Ebony is a sweetheart, though she doesn’t always get along with other cats. She’s an indoor-outdoor cat who showed up at our house one day and decided to make us her family. I wanted to bring her with me when I moved out for college, but we thought it’d be better if she stayed with my mom. She’s always really happy to see me when I visit.
Zeus is my momma’s baby. He’s a big fluffball and a very pretty kitty—and he knows it. He’s a bit on the prissy side and has the girliest meow I’ve ever heard.
friday’s featured feline: persephone
We’re starting up a new weekly post called Friday’s Featured Feline, where we let a reader feature their cat(s). I’m going to start off with featuring one of my own kitties, Persephone, who I’ve actually been posting a lot about recently. Hope it’s not going to her head!
Persy is the odd one of the family. She’s full-grown but a bit on the small side, and her stockiness reminds me of a bulldog. Unlike the other three cats, she’s not very vocal. It’s very rare to hear her meow, though she makes the cutest little sounds when she’s sleeping.
She’s not quite as cooey as the other cats, but she has her moments. She especially loves to rub up against my legs when I’m doing the dishes, which makes no sense to me. She is incredibly stubborn and not the brightest crayon in the box—she doesn’t even really know her name. Speaking of boxes, she absolutely loves them—not just jumping into them, but even simply lying on top of them.

She’s a lush and sleeps alllll the time.
Her all-time favorite hobby is attacking shadows on the wall. Shadowplay has become a nightly ritual.

She loves lying on us when we’re trying to read.
We acquired Persy when she was an unwanted kitten, about to be taken to the pound. My boyfriend Chris decided to take her, as Palpatine needed a friend. Persy loves her big “brother.”
She and Kudzu generally get along, but she and Juniper really dislike each other.
Up until this past year, I couldn’t really stand Persy. She drove me absolutely nuts. Of course, she was a kitten, but she was an especially crazy kitten; and while I do love kittens, I prefer adult cats. She’s finally calmed down and has really started to grow on me lately.

She loves being a pain in the butt and doing things she’s not supposed to. She always has.
