friday’s featured feline: rambo & spunk

Since I’m out of town and didn’t have time yesterday to put a post together, I wasn’t going to have a Featured Feline post today. However, my boyfriend Chris and I are staying with his sister, who just so happens to have recently brought home two adorable kittens, and I couldn’t resist getting some pictures last night. They are brothers and are about 3 months old; Rambo is hers, and Spunk is her roommate’s.

I brought them a homemade catnip donut and some mice, and they went nuts!

They are so cute, I can hardly stand it. As this isn’t a proper Featured Feline post, I’ll try to get Amanda to tell us more about her kitties sometime soon. I guarantee this won’t be the last you’ll see of these two little guys!

friday’s featured feline: beef

Today Yvonne is going to introduce us to her mischievous kitty with one of the silliest names ever—Beef! Take it away, Yvonne!

meet my beef

“Meat” my awesome cat, Beef! I adopted him last year from a student at Harvard; he’s a five-year-old cotton ball of love. He gets his name from my love of meats and my desire to come home, ask “Where’s the beef?” and have a kitty squeak at me. It didn’t exactly turn out that way, as he’s usually waiting at the door, inquiring where I’ve been and when I’ll feed him.

beef got caught!

Beef is extremely mischevous. I often catch him hacking into my email, hiding behind a doorway or a table for a sneak attack, or making sweet chirping sounds while pushing things off of my bureau. His favorite thing to do is play tag, which he always initiates by tapping my leg with his paw and running away. He also loves to chest-bump walls and chew on magazines.

beef as a butcher

He’s also very patient; I dress him up every now and again and he will wait until I’ve taken the picture to wriggle out. Last Halloween, I dressed him up in my butcher costume (those are fake sausages made from stockings). The one thing he does not like is having his nails trimmed.

beef chilling

On the flipside of all this mischief, he’s a super lovey guy. He loves to jump on my lap while I’m applying eyeliner and head-butt my chin. He also kneads my lower back while I’m working at the computer, making sure not to use his claws. I find him curled up next to me every morning and he usually waits until the alarm goes off to wish me a good morning in Beefspeak. He’s the best cat ever!

friday’s featured feline: omar & tofu

Today we’re going to meet Andrew and Christine’s two little brother kitties, Omar and Tofu!

Omar & Tofu

Omar and Tofu are brothers that we had adopted when they were 6 weeks old. Omar was named after our favorite character from the “Wire”, Omar Littles and has grown into his namesake, he’s a big bad alpha cat but with a heart of gold and loves to cuddle. Tofu was the perfect name for our furry happy-go-lucky little guy, you can tell them apart by the 4 extra pounds that Omar is packing and Tofu’s white nose.

Omar & Tofu2 snuggling

They love each other a lot, always playing together and getting into trouble. Currently their favorite new super-toy is a combination of their two old faves, a fishing pole with a hair band on the end! They go crazy for it and all they want to do is go fishing. I’ve found their fishing pole in the most random places around the apartment, and even worst is the fishing line crisscrossing through all our furniture.

Tofu can always be found falling asleep in any and every position possible.

Omar and Tofu will be turning 2 this month and we can’t wait to celebrate with them!

friday’s featured feline: pumpkin, reesey, & felix

Today we’re meeting Kathie’s kitties: Pumpkin, Reesey and Felix!

pumpkin then and now

Pumpkin is our 2 1/2 year old black kitty. My husband Josh was out riding his motorcycle through the countryside one day when he noticed something moving near the road out of the corner of his eye. Sadly, when he turned around and went back, he found a cat that had been run over with its baby still crouched beside it. He picked the baby up, stuck her in his jacket and brought her home. She’s been with us ever since proving that black cats are good luck! She is a very vocal kitty who loves to play fetch and she loves the rings that you find on top of milk jugs.

reesey then and now

A year after finding Pumpkin, we decided that she deserved to have a friend to keep her company. Josh went to the local shelter and picked out Reesey, a tortie, named after Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups because of her fur. She’s now almost 2 years old. She is a complete sweetheart who walks around with her curled tail up in the air. Her favorite toy is small craft pom poms and she learned how to play fetch by watching Pumpkin. She also greets us at the door whenever we return home and likes to roll over on her back, posing until we give her attention.

felix

Finally, Felix is our 4 year old Siamese cat. He’s the only male cat in the household. After Reesey, I really wanted to adopt a dog, but the ones I was interested in at the local shelter were always adopted by the time my husband and I could make it there to visit. When I saw Felix’s listing, I had to see him. I found it sad that he’d been returned to the shelter by his previous owners who’d adopted him from the shelter only 1 year before. When we saw him, he hopped up in the chair between us and sat down like he’d always been with us. He sleeps with his tongue hanging out sometimes and he greets us by headbutting our legs. Sometimes he tackles the back of our legs if we walk away before he’s done getting all the attention that he wants!

all 3 together

All three together have very different personalities and they’re very much like regular siblings.

friday’s featured feline: sable & gamal

Today Elena is going to share the story of how she acquired her two kitties, Sable and Gamal!

sable

Both Sable and Gamal were behavioral problem kitties that I adopted from North Shore Animal League. I saw Sable’s photo in their website when I was looking for a companion cat for my Butterscotch whose sister Moocata died in July of 2005. I was told by a pet therapist that it would be best to get a cat who was the same color so that her scent would be close to Moocata’s. I was lucky to get Sable because since she was a behavioral problem, I had to pass muster with her behaviorist, Dorit. Fortunately, I passed, but it took me three months to lure her out of the bathroom. Now she is a cuddly sweetie.

gamal

Gamal came into my life when Butterscotch died in Sept. 2007. This time, I just asked Dorit to pick someone out for Sable. Gamal was a healthy cat, but his sibling was not, so they decided to keep him with his sibling in the hospital which made Gamal angry, vicious and so depressed he wound up on a feeding tube. Dorit rescued him and nursed him back to health. When I got him he was so talkative and outgoing, and as you can see a perfect companion for Sable. They just love each other!

friday’s featured feline: darwina, diamond, & phenergan

Today we are meeting not one but three kitties! We’ll now give the floor over to Paulette, who is going to introduce her kitties Darwina, Diamond, and Phenergan!

darwina

Darwina is the alpha cat. She is a long-haired American Domestic. Not quite a tuxedo cat, not quite a cow, I put her into her own cat-a-gory. She hates my other female calico shorthair, Diamond. She only tolerates Diamond’s brother Phenergan.

Darwina doesn’t go outside. The other two are inside/outside. Diamond is never the instigator in the disagreements between her and Darwina. They really have some serious stare downs on who gets to sleep on my bed.

Darwina only plays with the mice. Diamond and Phenergan both have paid rent in the last month. They are my little fur babies. I have known Diamond and Phenergan all 10 years of their lives. Their mother had them under my house. Darwina is 7 years.
