As ridiculous as this thing is…. I kinda want it. I usually really don’t like toys like this, but this one is definitely an exception. It’s so silly, but what kind of cat lady would I be without it?
Yes, you read that right: brainwave-controlled cat ears. Only in Japan.
From Tokyo-based Neurowear comes Necomimi (neko and mimi are the words for “cat” and “ear” in Japanese), “the new communication tool that augments human’s body and ability.” These cat ears read brainwaves and respond to the wearer’s brain activity. If the wearer concentrates or sees something interesting, the ears perk up; when the wearer relaxes, the ears lie down.
Just see for yourself:
As ridiculous as this is, it is also undeniably cool. The cat ears are silly, but the technology behind them is pretty neat. And these kitty ears are just the start—Neurowear plans to develop even more “fashion items and gadgets using brain waves and other biosensor with ‘Augumented Human Body’ as the concept.”
I wonder what’s next? Does anyone else foresee a matching cat tail coming out soon? I bet cosplayers and lolitas are gonna love this.
Need to kittify your computer? Geek Stuff 4 U has quite a selection of… interesting cat-themed computer accessories, directly from Japan. Some are pretty cute, and some are, well, a little on the weird side.
Unfortunately, most of these items are pretty pricey, and a lot of them are out of stock.
Found another gem from Japan today. Remember the mechanical kitty coin bank I posted about before? Here’s another one that’s even more animated.
Here it is in action:
This kitty coin bank from ThinkGeek is pretty cute, if a bit silly. You place a coin on the fish, the kitty meows then reaches out and grabs it, pulling it into the box. It’s definitely adorable, though for $29.99 it’s a bit expensive for a coin bank. I also imagine it would take forever if you had a lot of change to put in, haha.
See it in action!
While perusing the internet this morning for cat things, I found this Dancing Pet Speaker from Urban Outfitters and felt the need to share it.
Do you think this is cute or just kind of creepy? Watch this video and see what you think…
I vote creepy—animatronics kind of freak me out. It reminds me of the animatronic band at Chuck E. Cheese’s that both entertained and terrified me as a child. The only reason I might want this thing is just to see how my cats would react to it.
