maneki neko monday: lucky cat costume!
I had meant to post this last Monday, as it would’ve been great for a Halloween post. Actually, I had wanted to put together a big post of maneki neko costumes, but there aren’t that many I could find and only a few don’t look totally ridiculous and/or half-assed. Here is one of my favorites:
Says the creator,
I made this costume in a matter of a few hours. Took an oversized white hoodie and added all of the embellishments to make it Maneki Neko-like. I love the giant oversized jingle bell that I found for the necklace. It’s perfect! The leg warmers are actually cut off sleeves from another sweatshirt. I added stuffing to the paws to create more of a 3D look.
For something she managed to put together in a few hours… wow! I’m totally impressed.
I have been considering making a maneki neko costume myself, but I am reluctant because for one thing, I’m not sure many people would get it, and for another, my nyan cat costume turned out so poorly I’m kind of terrified of attempting another cat girl costume…
the cutest ewok kitty costume
I wish I had found this super cute costume a few days ago so I could’ve included it in my Caturday Collection: Cats in Costume post, but ah well, as a Star Wars-lover, I think it deserves a post of its own!
Megan, the creator of the costume says:
This year, I opted not to carve a pumpkin. Instead, I channeled my crafty impulses into making something for Lilly. Something awesome. I made her a Wicket costume.
Thank goodness Ewok headdresses are so poorly sewn (Ewoks may have opposable thumbs but they’re still pretty bad with a needle), it makes my ineptitude look authentic.
a caturday collection: cats in costume
Halloween is almost here! Is your kitty dressing up? I don’t think I’ll be dressing up mine, as they hate it and usually just fall over and lie there pathetically… Such spoilsports!
Here are some of my favorite kitty costumes. I’m sure you’ve seen several of them before, but I felt they needed to be included in my collection. Enjoy!
a caturday collection: con cats
This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend my very first Dragon*Con, and I had a blast. And yes, I did dress up. I’m something of a nerd (if you didn’t know), and I absolutely LOVE dressing up. I was very excited about one costume in particular, but it ended up being something of a disaster…
Just what was said costume? Well, in theory it was supposed to be a sexy Nyan Cat girl. I’d never seen one before—Nyan Cat costumes almost always consist of a large cardboard cutout or a pillowcase—so I just had to do it. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out at all as I had expected, i.e. it wasn’t very sexy. Which is a bummer, because not only did I not have an awesome costume as I had hoped, but I put quite a bit of time and money into it.
Anyway, there were quite a few Nyan Cats there, and I’m happy to say that most of them were not just cardboard cutouts. (If you really want to see my costume, there’s a picture of it on the Facebook page. I’m not gonna post it here.)
There were some other popular internet cats, like Ceiling Cat:
And Keyboard Cat:
There were a few Cheshire Cats running about, but this one was no doubt the wildest:
Also some Thundercats (would’ve liked to see the whole group!):
And, it’s kind of a stretch, but Josie and the Pussycats were also there:
There was even a Cat Face!
cats dressed as hot dogs eating hot dogs
Cats, dressed as hot dogs, eating… hot dogs? Yep, you read that right.
Think this is weird? This isn’t the first time they’ve dressed up their cats and fed them strange things. Sometimes I wonder what compels people to do things like this, haha. I mean, really, how do you come up with ideas like this?
