maneki neko monday: maneki nekobus!
I love this drawing of a maneki neko Catbus (from My Neighbor Totoro) by DeviantArt user ukonzukai. I wonder, do all those extra arms mean extra luck? I bet so!
the art of elize nazelie—plus a giveaway!
A few weeks ago I posted an adorable Tom Kitten tattoo designed by Elize Nazelie. Elize is not only a fantastic tattoo artist, but she’s also a painter. You can find her wonderful watercolor originals and prints in her Etsy store. My favorites, of course, are her cat paintings.
Here are a few more of her pieces from her DeviantArt gallery:
These last two pieces feature Elize’s kitty, Nimbus. She is also in the “Weathercats” piece above.
Don’t you just love Elize’s work? Well, guess what—it’s your lucky day, because we’re doing a giveaway for one of her “Kitten Kitchen” prints!
All you have to do to enter is 1) be a fan of ModCatLove on Facebook and 2) leave a comment on this post telling us which featured piece of artwork you like the most.
The giveaway will end on May 29th at 5pm CST and is open to all readers.
If you like Elize’s work, be sure to check out her portfolio, DeviantArt gallery, and Facebook page. If you’re looking for a tattoo artist who takes tattooing as an art very seriously and you happen to live in the Boston area, Elize works at The Boston Tattoo Company in Somerville, MA.
the devil’s pet.
Hi fellow cat-lovers! I am ALMOST through with finals, and will soon be back to regular posting about kitties! Today, I happened to be able to snag some time for a quick post regarding a very cool candle my friend Ricard showed me.
The Devil’s Pet candle, created by Thorunn Arnadottir, begins as a polygonal kitty in soft pink:
I love how the excess wick has been rolled into kitty’s often-favorite toy: a ball of string.
When you burn the candle, the wax melts away to reveal a metalwork cat skeleton:
Though definitely eerie, this piece is intriguing and very cool–I haven’t really seen anything like it out there. I’d absolutely buy one. What do you think? Pretty unique, huh?
ASCII art kitties!
ASCII art is created using only characters and symbols from text, and much of it is very intricate! My friend Ledford showed me this site with awesome ASCII cats, and I wanted to share a couple of my favorites. The creator, when known, is credited at the page.

You might be thinking, “Wait a second… Dog Pop Art?” But before you run off disappointed or wondering if I’ve gone crazy, you’ll be glad to hear that artist Angela Bond, owner of Dog Pop Art, paints cats as well as dogs. You can find prints of her lovely, vibrant acrylic paintings in her shop for $28 each. Here are some of my favorites.
