the cutest ewok kitty costume
I wish I had found this super cute costume a few days ago so I could’ve included it in my Caturday Collection: Cats in Costume post, but ah well, as a Star Wars-lover, I think it deserves a post of its own!
Megan, the creator of the costume says:
This year, I opted not to carve a pumpkin. Instead, I channeled my crafty impulses into making something for Lilly. Something awesome. I made her a Wicket costume.
Thank goodness Ewok headdresses are so poorly sewn (Ewoks may have opposable thumbs but they’re still pretty bad with a needle), it makes my ineptitude look authentic.

Halloween is almost here! Is your kitty dressing up? I don’t think I’ll be dressing up mine, as they hate it and usually just fall over and lie there pathetically… Such spoilsports!
Here are some of my favorite kitty costumes. I’m sure you’ve seen several of them before, but I felt they needed to be included in my collection. Enjoy!
the most disgusting and tastiest cake ever
Yes, that’s right—I’m talking about the litterbox cake!
I don’t know how I found the recipe for a litterbox cake, but I’ve made it a few times now and it’s a lot of fun. Some might find it a bit too gross to eat, but oh well—more for me and anyone else daring enough to eat it! It actually tastes quite good, so you’re missing out if you don’t try it. Here is the recipe I use, which I found on Fabulous Foods.
Ingredients
1 spice or German chocolate cake mix (I use spice)
1 white cake mix
1 or 2 large packages vanilla instant pudding mix, prepared
1 large package vanilla sandwich cookies
green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Roll candies
You’ll also need:
1 new kitty litter pan
1 new kitty litter pan liner
1 new pooper scooper
Directions
- Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).
- Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble.
- Crumble white sandwich cookies in small batches in food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup.
- To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs, add a few drops green food coloring and mix until completely colored.
- When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl. Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding. Important: mix in just enough of the pudding to moisten it. You don’t want it too soggy. Combine gently.
- Line a new, clean kitty litter box. Put the cake/pudding/cookie mixture into the litter box.
- Put 3 unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls bury them in the mixture. Sprinkle the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie crumbs lightly on top of everything — this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll in kitty litter.
- Heat 3 Tootsie Rolls in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake; sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Spread remaining Tootsie Rolls over the top. For the coup de gras take one Tootsie Roll and heat until pliable, hang it over the side of the kitty litter box, sprinkling it lightly with cookie crumbs. Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around for a truly disgusting effect!
Find yourself a fake cat and stick its back legs in for an added effect! ;)
cat tat tuesday: halloween cattoos
Halloween is less than a week away! I love Halloween, but I don’t know if I love it as much as the owners of these tattoos, who show their love of both cats and Halloween by having them inked on them!
Which one is your favorite? I love the last one. Traditional-style tats are awesome!
maneki neko monday: GIANT MANEKI!
This weekend, I went to Talladega in Alabama for the NASCAR race. It was a FANTASTIC weekend, especially because my favorite driver, Clint Bowyer, WON!! Not only was it my first Chase race (the races in the “Chase” determine championship contenders), but my first race that Clint Bowyer actually won. It was awesome!
While we were there, we went to this wonderful Japanese restaurant called Yume in Oxford. In front of the restaurant, they had two GIANT Maneki Neko statues, and what kind of MCL contributor would I be if I didn’t get a photo op?!
I’m not a very tall person, but this Giant Maneki Neko was nearly as tall as I am! Too cool!
