the photography of andy prokh

Our pal Amanda recently linked me to the Photography of Andy Prokh, which often features a stunning British Shorthair (thanks Marianne!). Many of his photos are all black and white, with a unique bit of added photomanipulation that seems to tell a story. They are very cool, funny, and some are even quite heartwarming. Here are some of my favorite photos:

what is the kitten dreaming about?

By now, you’ve undoubtedly seen the most adorable video ever, where a mother cat hugs her kitten who’s having a bad dream. But have you wondered what the poor little kitten was dreaming about? Here’s your chance to take a guess!

kitten's bad dream

I’d love to make this a contest for the funniest picture, but frankly, I don’t know what to give away and I don’t know if many people will participate. However, if you DO participate, you will get something in return. I promise. Send your picture to pixelcat@modcatlove.com or post it on the Facebook page. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

cat tat tuesday: cat and sunflowers

Santu Altamirano - cat and sunflowers tattoo

Up until now, I’ve always preferred really bright tattoos, especially those of a more traditional style. I’m pretty pale, so colorful tattoos work nicely on me. However, lately I’ve found myself liking tattoos that are a bit darker, and, I don’t know, a bit more naturalistic? I’ve fallen in love with Elize Nazelie‘s tattoos, and I also really like the style of Buenos Aires tattooist Santu Altamirano, who did the cat above. He kind of reminds me of one of Louis Wain’s cats!

cats are extra affectionate in the bathroom

I just had to post this. I am so glad Cat Versus Human did a comic about it, because it’s the weirdest thing. What is it with cats and the bathroom?

cat vs human - cats are extra affectionate in the bathroom

Whenever I’m in the bathroom, it’s a sure bet that at least one of my cats is in there with me. In fact, it’s pretty common to have at least two or three cats in there with me at a time.

Juniper is notorious for dashing in there after me, and if she doesn’t make it, she scratches at the door until I let her in.

Kudzu does the same, except he meows pitifully if I don’t let him in. He is particularly fond of the shower, and likes to stick his head in there and drink water off of me. It’s adorable, if a bit annoying, because he will sit there and cry if I don’t give him any. I rarely let him in while showering, though, because I’m afraid I’ll accidentally fling some soap into his face! When I’m just using the toilet, he likes to jump into my lap and curl up.

Palpatine and Persy also like to share the bathroom with us. Palpy will whine and scratch at the door if my boyfriend doesn’t let him in with him.

Does anyone have any idea why cats like the bathroom so much? It doesn’t make any sense to me. I know many cats like drinking from the faucet, and curling up in the sink, but why do they follow us in any time we need to go? Do they really just enjoy being with us when we’re doing our business? Weirdos…
