necomimi: brainwave-controlled cat ears

Yes, you read that right: brainwave-controlled cat ears. Only in Japan.

necomimi - brainwave-controlled cat ears

From Tokyo-based Neurowear comes Necomimi (neko and mimi are the words for “cat” and “ear” in Japanese), “the new communication tool that augments human’s body and ability.” These cat ears read brainwaves and respond to the wearer’s brain activity. If the wearer concentrates or sees something interesting, the ears perk up; when the wearer relaxes, the ears lie down.

Just see for yourself:

As ridiculous as this is, it is also undeniably cool. The cat ears are silly, but the technology behind them is pretty neat. And these kitty ears are just the start—Neurowear plans to develop even more “fashion items and gadgets using brain waves and other biosensor with ‘Augumented Human Body’ as the concept.”

I wonder what’s next? Does anyone else foresee a matching cat tail coming out soon? I bet cosplayers and lolitas are gonna love this.
