nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan!

So, if you’re like me and spend way too much time on the internet looking at cats and dumb things like memes, you’ve probably seen Nyan Cat.

If you haven’t, then watch this now:

(Warning: Do not open the website and play the video at the same time. I accidentally did this, and it was MADNESS. I thought my brain might explode.)

Here’s the gif that started it all.

nyancat

I don’t really understand the phenomenon that is Nyan Cat, a poptart cat being propelled through space by a rainbow, but I don’t think it’s one of those things that really can be understood. It’s bizarre, and it makes no sense, but it’s awesome, so who cares?

And when I say phenomenon, it truly is. Nyan Cat is all over the place.

You can find Nyan Cat jewelry at Hey Chickadee.

There’s a t-shirt.

There’s even a Flash game. And an iPhone app.

And don’t forget about all the fanart out there.

There’s even a Pusheen Nyan Cat!

And just as Longcat has a dark nemesis, so too does Nyan Cat—Tacnayn!

Some people have even gone so far as to turn their actual kitties into Nyan Cats.

Want more Nyan Cat? Check out Know Your Meme, or just do a Google search, because it’s all over the internet. You can also become a fan on Facebook!

As a side note, I can’t help but wonder: was Nyan Cat inspired by nyanko?

friday’s featured feline: pumpkin, reesey, & felix

Today we’re meeting Kathie’s kitties: Pumpkin, Reesey and Felix!

pumpkin then and now

Pumpkin is our 2 1/2 year old black kitty. My husband Josh was out riding his motorcycle through the countryside one day when he noticed something moving near the road out of the corner of his eye. Sadly, when he turned around and went back, he found a cat that had been run over with its baby still crouched beside it. He picked the baby up, stuck her in his jacket and brought her home. She’s been with us ever since proving that black cats are good luck! She is a very vocal kitty who loves to play fetch and she loves the rings that you find on top of milk jugs.

reesey then and now

A year after finding Pumpkin, we decided that she deserved to have a friend to keep her company. Josh went to the local shelter and picked out Reesey, a tortie, named after Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups because of her fur. She’s now almost 2 years old. She is a complete sweetheart who walks around with her curled tail up in the air. Her favorite toy is small craft pom poms and she learned how to play fetch by watching Pumpkin. She also greets us at the door whenever we return home and likes to roll over on her back, posing until we give her attention.

felix

Finally, Felix is our 4 year old Siamese cat. He’s the only male cat in the household. After Reesey, I really wanted to adopt a dog, but the ones I was interested in at the local shelter were always adopted by the time my husband and I could make it there to visit. When I saw Felix’s listing, I had to see him. I found it sad that he’d been returned to the shelter by his previous owners who’d adopted him from the shelter only 1 year before. When we saw him, he hopped up in the chair between us and sat down like he’d always been with us. He sleeps with his tongue hanging out sometimes and he greets us by headbutting our legs. Sometimes he tackles the back of our legs if we walk away before he’s done getting all the attention that he wants!

all 3 together

All three together have very different personalities and they’re very much like regular siblings.

big cat roarsday: baby clouded leopards

This post is close to home to me—literally, because I’m right outside of Nashville, where these little one-month old clouded leopard cubs reside. Check out these adorable photos and video, courtesy of ZooBorns.

cat tat tuesday: marie antoinette kitty

victorian cat tattoo

I love this tattoo. It’s great when people take something like a portrait and add some creativity to it. Not that there’s anything wrong with get a realistic portrait of your cat inked on you, but this is so much more fun.

Says Lindsey, owner of the tat,

This is a portrait of my cat, Marley. I always thought that if she could be any person in history, she would definitely be Marie Antoinette, which is what inspired the Victorian design. I know this is borderline crazy cat lady, but I’m not ashamed. My cat rules. It was done by Megan Wilson at Picture Machine Tattoo in San Francisco, CA. She’s incredible! If you live in the Bay Area I would definitely recommend choosing her for your next tattoo.
